About

The purpose of "Pearls of Great Families" is to provide a community sharing blog where anyone can post about their family history experiences.

Genealogy and Family History work can feel daunting and overwhelming.  We are encouraged to work on our family, but how do we do it?  This blog is to show how simple it can be.   The resources, prompts, suggestions, and posts on this blog are connected to family history.  Participate in daily prompts, submit your own ancestor write-up, and comment on what you read.  These simple acts will be teaching aids for improving your skills as a family historian and genealogist.

Don't be scared away by the daunting task of completing your family tree.  Take small steps.  Remember that life is line upon line, precept on precept.  Make a goal to post a simple paragraph once a week.  Or pick one ancestor to work on for the month and submit a fact list of what you've gathered at the end of the month.  Even following a few of the genealogy blogs, doing database searches, and participating in indexing or gravestone images is a part of doing your family history.

The hope of this site is to be a starting stone on your searches.  It is to spark the fire within you to want to learn about who your ancestors really are.  Or if the flame is already there, you can be a part of helping others find the joy you already feel.

Links on the left column are helpful genealogy databases.  Links on the right are helpful software programs and genealogy blogs.

Feel free to send questions and suggestions.  Either comment on the blog or email inquiries to familypearls (at) gmail (dot) com.

I live in the present yet feel for the past
Seeking connections and roots that outlast
The change of the seasons, the distance of time
Stories and people who I can call mine

Someone who's part of me -- Who will that someone be?

For the hearts of the children are turning
Turning to fathers they've never seen
And the hearts of the fathers are burning
With the promise of what will be
